Good buys... Just to note... Seasonal info...
Leeks are this months ‘What’s in Season’ website favourite and its not hard to see why, they are locally produced, good value for money and can be used in a mass variety of ways. If you are a soup lover it’s Leek and Potato all the way, and with our delicious Maris Pipers you can’t go wrong. We also have some truly lovely bunched carrots in stock, these are available by the box or by the bunch and are great for adding some colour to your dishes. Curly Kale is also a good buy currently, it is said to be one of the most nutritionally rich vegetables grown in Britain, and with its curly leaves it’s also one of the most attractive. Our Swede, Celeriac and Carrots are all locally grown and of a great quality. All of our fruits are of a great quality presently but in particular our Oranges are delicious, they are packed full of sweet juice making them extremely refreshing. Our Juicing and Large Oranges are from Spain and our Mediums come from Morocco. Loose Cherries are now on stock from Chile, they are dark red in colour, and full of sweet juice. After last weeks rather depressing Newsletter, this week isn’t much better unfortunately. Broccoli is very short and the price is reflected in this shortage, which has been caused by an abrupt end to the Spanish season. Regrettably, Cauliflower is even more of a problem and it is likely that it will be unavailable at the start of the week for some customers. The price will also remain high as a result. Iceberg, Cos and Little Gem are experiencing similar problems due to the Spanish weather, with availability being low. On a better note however, the problems we have been having with Fine Beans seem to be improving with them being more readily available. We are hopeful that the availability of Water Cress will improve by the end of the week and into next week, following the real problems we have been having. Our British White and Green Cabbages are plentiful at the moment and a great alternative to the above problem vegetables. At last, the Pancake Day count down can begin! And guess what, everything you need can be purchased from one place, A. David & Co.! Plain Flour (in a variety of sizes), Eggs (Medium, Large or Free Range), Milk (Semi-Skimmed, Skimmed or Full Fat) and Butter (Salted or Unsalted), all available for next day delivery, but that’s not the best bit, we have so many healthy fillings available to you, as well as a few unhealthy (but yummy) ones too. Obviously we have the traditional Lemon and Sugar delight which we all know and love, but why not try them with fresh Strawberries, Flaked Almonds (8626) and Maple Sugar (8864), with a swirl of Aerosol Cream (8169) YUM! Post your pictures to our Facebook and Twitter Pages, we’d love to see them. Our Strawberries are currently large berries which are truly delicious.
